What did Elon Musk’s son actually say to Donald Trump?
Elon Musk gave a news conference inside the White House’s Oval Office last Tuesday to promote government efficiency, but it was his young son who stole the headlines.
The tech billionaire and efficiency tsar took the highly unorthodox move of bringing his four-year-old X Æ A-Xii along for the ride. And “little X”, sitting aloft his father’s shoulders, told Donald Trump what many have wished to say to the US president: “Shush.”
Or did he? There is now some debate online as to what the youngster said and if he was really telling the most powerful man in the world to shut up.
Here is what we know.
What did Elon Musk’s son say to Donald Trump?
It all happened before another, alleged, child of Mr Musk’s was called into question.
X Æ A-Xii, pronounced X Ash A Twelve, was happy to go along for the ride on Tuesday as his father addressed the waiting media.
X is the oldest son that Mr Musk had with Grimes. It was a rare outing in public for the youngster, and on this evidence he may not be seen again for a while.
A clip has circulated on social media supposedly showing X whispering: “I want you to shush your mouth,” to Mr Trump as Mr Musk talks in the background.
Little X, who began picking his nose after his apparent comment to Mr Trump, is also believed to have told him “you’re not the president”.
However, there have been reports that both clips have been doctored with US network ABC telling viewers it is “not clear” and “do not believe everything you see online”.
Mr Trump looks at X while he is talking but does not respond. The sound has to be edited in order for the youngster’s words to be made out.
Some have said that the boy told Mr Trump that he “had to go and pee”, according to Newsweek. And according to the musician Grimes, who has three other children from her relationship with Mr Musk, the visit should never have happened.
She tweeted afterwards: “He should not be in public like this. I did not see this, thank u for alerting me. But I’m glad he was polite. Sigh.”
Whether or not it is true, it does call into question the power apparently wielded by South Africa-born Mr Musk who now regularly meets with the president.
