The issue between Harry and the royals is not forgiveness but trust

If reports in various parts of the press are to be believed, Harry wants to re-enter the Royal Family. That is why, so the speculation runs, he has not included any new material in the soon-to-be-launched paperback edition of Spare and why he and Meghan have not attacked the royals in any recent interviews.

Pardon my scepticism but I think the more likely explanation is that they have simply run out of material. It is a simple fact that the Royal family has carefully avoided contact with them for fear that any conversations could be exploited by the couple, so there is no new revelation to present to the world. Their staple currency of moans and allegations is drying up and it doesn’t need a band of PR experts to tell them so.
The Royals would be daft to have Harry back because the issue here is not forgiveness but trust. One can and should forgive freely but the rebuilding of trust is quite another matter. A wronged spouse may forgive but it will be a very long time before she ceases to worry when her husband looks at a pretty woman.

If Harry were ever to return to the fold, other Royals would always be waiting for the Grand Exit Mark II and the flow of lucrative vitriol and recriminations which would follow in its wake.

It is not so very long since Harry told his interviewer, Tom Bradby, that he had never been so happy as he is in California, so what has changed?

If Harry wants to convince the King and his long-suffering brother that it is even halfway safe to have him back then let him offer the following proof: let Meghan reconcile with her own father, then let the pair offer the “firm” a public and unconditional apology for the accusations they have made together with an expression of regret for the anguish they caused the late Queen and a promise to behave better in future.

No, Harry? I thought not.
