Reason Princess Charlotte could get Princess Anne’s prestigious title after ‘royal crash course’
Princess Charlotte has been getting a “royal crash course” from her great-aunt Princess Anne and could eventually take her title.
The nine-year-old has made more public appearances in recent months, including a notable Wimbledon visit with mum Kate. Anne meanwhile, was once again crowned the hardest-working royal of 2024 having completed 217 engagements – 31 more than her brother King Charles.
She’s shown her how to spark conversations, but also how to end one and move on without upsetting anyone. That was a tough one for Kate to learn, but Charlotte was born to royalty so is used to the subtle signals and messaging the royals give to stay in control of a situation.”
With such stellar tutelage, speculation is rife amongst Royal followers about whether Charlotte might one day receive the title of Princess Royal when Prince William ascends the throne. The title is usually offered to the monarch’s eldest daughter.
Yet this special title isn’t handed over by default – even Anne waited until 1987 before she was bestowed the honour, leaving it in William’s hands to decide Charlotte’s future title.
Daily Mail Diary Editor Richard Eden, speaking on the Palace Confidential podcast, revealed: “Traditionally the Princess Royal would be the eldest daughter of the monarch so when William becomes king, it is likely that Princess Charlotte, if Princess Anne is dead, may be our future Princess Royal.”
