Queen Camilla major health update as Palace issues new statement on chest infection
The Queen will return to public duties today after her chest infection but will miss the Gladiator II premiere on Wednesday to aid her recovery, a royal source said.
Last week Buckingham Palace announced Queen Camilla was pulling out of engagements after becoming unwell with a chest infection.
The Queen spent several days resting at home under doctor’s orders, a senior palace aide said. The Duchess of Gloucester stepped in on Camilla’s behalf at the annual opening of the Field of Remembrance at Westminster Abbey on Thursday.
Meanwhile King Charles hosted a Buckingham Palace reception for Olympic and Paralympic athletes which Camilla had been due to give the same evening.
Today it was announced The Queen is attending a Booker Prize reception at Clarence House on Tuesday, however she will be meeting guests for a shorter period than planned as she continues to recover.
Camilla will also still attend a Palace reception with the King on Wednesday to celebrate the TV and film industry, but again she will not be present for the entirety of the engagement. She will also not be attending the star-studded Gladiator II premiere on Wednesday evening.
The changes to her diary are understood to have been made to protect and prioritise her continued recovery, with royal doctors keen to prevent any setback from the nasty seasonal illness which saw her pull out of engagements last week.
The Queen was not present at Cenotaph war memorial in London for Remembrance Sunday, where King Charles, Prince William, Kate Middleton and other members of the royal family gathered to pay tribute to Britain’s war dead.
In a statement on November 9 Buckingham Palace said she would be taking time to rest and recover her health.
“Following doctors’ guidance to ensure a full recovery from a seasonal chest infection, and to protect others from any potential risk, Her Majesty will not attend this weekend’s Remembrance events,” the statement read.
“While this is a source of great disappointment to The Queen, she will mark the occasion privately at home and hopes to return to public duties early next week,” it added.
