Princess Charlotte’s adorable hobbies she shares with her grandma Princess Diana
Princess Charlotte never got to meet her grandmother Princess Diana but she nevertheless has a shared passion with the late royal.
Sporty Charlotte enjoys a number of hobbies, including gymnastics, tennis and horse riding. And she also has a love of ballet, just as Diana did. Both Princess Kate and Prince William have opened up about Charlotte’s hobby, with Kate confirming that her little girl “loves” dance while talking to English National Ballet director Tamara Rojo in 2017.
And in 2023 as a special birthday treat, Kate also took Princess Charlotte and friends to a ballet performance of Cinderella at the Royal Opera House in London. Prince William, meanwhile, spoke about his children’s love of dance and gave a rare insight into their family life at home during an appearance on the Apple Fitness + podcast Time to Walk. He said: “One of the songs that the children are loving at the moment is Shakira, Waka Waka. There are a lot of hip movements! There’s a lot of dressing up.

“Charlotte, particularly, is running around the kitchen in her dresses and ballet stuff and everything. She goes completely crazy with Louis following her around trying to do the same thing. It’s a really happy moment where the children just enjoy dancing, messing around, and, and singing.” Princess Diana was known for her love of ballet – so much so that during her childhood, she aspired to be a professional ballerina, but was rejected due to being too tall.
In fact, Diana – who went on to become patron of the English National Ballet – enjoyed dancing so much that she once put on a surprise public performance at London’s Royal Opera House. In December 1985, Charles and Diana attended a gala event at the famed venue. Midway through, the princess quietly left her seat in the Royal Box to grace the stage with dancer Wayne Sleep. They danced to Billy Joel’s “Uptown Girl,” which was Diana’s own song choice.
Wayne later spoke to HELLO! about the experience, saying: “I walked in and I looked up at this towering sort of goddess above me and I thought: ‘This Isn’t going to work; it’ll be hysterically funny’. Then I said: ‘You know, I’ve been up very late last night. Do you mind if I sit down?’ And she said: ‘No, not at all, you naughty boy.’ From that moment, we started giggling and laughing. We had the same schoolboy humour. I was her sort-of jester, in a way, but we did get on incredibly well. We had something that clicked. She had natural style. She could do the high kick, she could do a pirouette and she had lovely swinging hips.”
