Prince William appears to have sent a subtle yet pointed message to his younger brother, Prince Harry, through his recent public outing.

While Harry has long voiced concerns about his safety in the UK, particularly for his wife Meghan Markle and their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, William’s casual appearance at a North Norfolk pub in April with Princess Kate’s mother, Carole Middleton, seems to challenge Harry’s fears head-on.

Since leaving the UK in 2020, Harry has been vocal about his fears for his family’s safety, particularly after losing his government-provided security. He has stated that he wants to bring Meghan and their children back to Britain, but feels he cannot do so without adequate protection. This has been a key factor in the Sussexes’ decision to remain in the US.

However, William’s visit to the pub seems to “blow apart” Harry’s narrative, according to royal correspondent Richard Eden in The Mail. Eden remarked that while Harry claimed to have “fled Britain fearing for our lives,” his brother William is able to lead a relatively normal life, enjoying simple outings without the same level of concern.

This contrast raises questions about the brothers’ differing perspectives on life in the UK. While Harry has made no secret of his fears for his family’s safety, William’s actions suggest a starkly different reality. How is it, some may ask, that the Prince of Wales can go about his day-to-day activities without fear, while Harry feels the need for heightened security measures?

Earlier this year, Harry lost his High Court challenge against the UK government regarding his security when visiting Britain. This defeat further complicates his ability to visit the UK with his family, as he continues to feel unsafe without the official protection he once had as a working royal.

It comes as Harry has a string of high-profile engagements in New York this week. However, one person Harry won’t be seeing in New York is his older brother, Prince William. Harry’s trip will also overlap with the 2024 Earthshot Prize Innovation Summit, scheduled for Tuesday.

The Earthshot Prize is one of William’s key areas of work, and last year he was in New York for the 2023 summit. It led to speculation that the feuding brothers could awkwardly be in New York at the same time next month. But it has since emerged William is not travelling to the Big Apple later this month and had never planned to.

William did attend the summit in 2023 but his appearance at it in 2022 had to be cancelled as it came during a period of royal mourning after the death and funeral of the late Queen – although he did send a video message.
