The brothers, who were once considered inseparable, originally fell apart after Prince Harry quit the Royal Family in 2020 and went on to hurl a number of accusations at the family in bombshell interviews and his tell-all memoir Spare, which was released just last year.

Despite being at recent events together, including a Spencer family memorial service last month, the brothers refused to talk to one another.

A source also confirmed that William, 42, will not be calling his younger brother on his 40th birthday tomorrow.

Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams has now told Express.co.uk that a reunion between the rifting brothers might be off the cards for some time yet, but will hopefully have happened before Harry’s 50th birthday in 10 years time.

Richard said: “The current state of the relationship between the brothers was clear at the recent Memorial for their uncle Lord Fellowes, when they did not speak.

“It is unsurprising William won’t be calling him. He feels Harry has betrayed him and his family.

“Reconciliation, as Harry has said publicly, though that does not mean it is likely to happen, can occur when there is illness in the family.

“The only way reconciliation, which obviously makes sense, could occur is by private contact, probably over years and possibly by using trusted mutual friends as go-betweens.”

Despite the two princes not talking, Prince Harry did an interview earlier this year after his father King Charles was diagnosed with cancer.

The Duke of Sussex insisted that he loved his family and said that illness could bring them back together after he flew from America to the UK to see his father.

He told Good Morning America: “So, yeah, I think any illness, any sickness, brings families together. I see it time and time again, and that makes me very happy.

“I love my family. The fact that I was able to get on a plane and go see and spend any time with him (the King), I’m grateful for that.

“”I’ve got other trips plans that will take me through the UK, or back to the UK, and so I’ll stop in and see my family as much as I can.”

No members of the Royal Family will be visiting the prince on his 40th birthday, which will be spent in California.

The Duke is set to have a big birthday bash before going on a short trip with his friends.

He will then fly to New York for solo engagements toward the end of the month.
