Kaya Walker, the president of New York University’s chapter of the College Republicans of America (CRA), has resigned following controversy over remarks she made about Barron Trump, the youngest son of former President Donald Trump.​

In a recent Vanity Fair interview, Walker referred to Barron as “sort of like an oddity on campus,” noting that he “goes to class, he goes home.” She also mentioned that an NYU professor joked that Barron “doesn’t really belong here.” These comments sparked backlash, with critics accusing Walker of contributing to the media’s invasive attention on Barron. ​

The CRA swiftly distanced itself from Walker’s statements, stating that they “do not align with the values and principles upheld by our organization.” Despite acknowledging that Vanity Fair may have “unfairly framed” Walker’s words, the national organization deemed the remarks inappropriate. Walker submitted her resignation shortly thereafter. ​

In her resignation letter, Walker expressed that her comments were a critique of the culture that “delights in forming parasocial relationships with celebrities.” She apologized to those affected by the controversy but defended her stance against the unhealthy fascination with celebrities. ​

In response to the incident, CRA President Will Donahue extended an invitation to Barron Trump to join the organization, emphasizing that he represents “the future of the conservative movement.” Donahue highlighted Barron’s qualities of “resilience, courage, and the humility to rise above petty hostility,” which he believes align with the organization’s values. ​
