Along with ensuring he became the first sitting president to attend a Super Bowl, Trump also cited the game as being an annual opportunity to transcend differences as a reason behind his attendance.
Donald Trump remained composed throughout his appearance at Super Bowl LIX
However, in an interview with Fox News that aired hours before kick-off at the Superdome in New Orleans, the president added: “I thought it would be a good thing for the country to have the president be at the game.”
There were even some suggestions to say Trump was there in support of the Chiefs, who were targeting a historic Super Bowl ‘three-peat’ with victory. When asked who he thinks will win the showpiece event ahead of the game, the president picked the Chiefs because of quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
“I guess you have to say that when a quarterback wins as much as he’s won, I have to go with Kansas City,” the president said. “I have to go with Kansas City. At the same time, Philadelphia has a fantastic — it’s going to be just a great game.”
