Mindy Kaling Tells Ben Affleck to ‘Hang in There’ at 2024 DNC Following Jennifer Lopez’s Divorce Filing
Mindy Kaling is sending words of encouragement to Ben Affleck!
Speaking at the 2024 Democratic National Convention on Wednesday, Aug. 21, the actress and comedian referenced the recent divorce filing made by the Justice League star’s wife Jennifer Lopez while “giving a shout-out to the amazing delegation from my home state, Massachusetts.”
“I love you, Massachusetts!” Kaling, 45, said in a clip of her speech shared on X (formerly known as Twitter). “Everyone is always hating on us, but they just don’t get it!”
“Go [Red] Sox! Go Jayson Tatum! Ben Affleck, hang in there!” she continued, going on to quip in reference to 52-year-old Affleck’s commercials with Dunkin’, “Dunkin’ Donuts is the best coffee in the world!”
Lopez, 55, filed for divorce from Affleck after more than two years of marriage on Tuesday, Aug. 20.
The “Love Don’t Cost A Thing” singer filed without a lawyer in Los Angeles County Superior Court, and listed April 26, 2024 as the date of separation.
“I think that she most likely just wanted to get this done, [that] there was a lot of hesitation and hemming and hawing back and forth, and it’s a statement, ‘I’m moving forward, I’m filing and I’m doing it on my own,’ ” Marilyn Chinitz, matrimonial partner at Blank Rome LLP, told PEOPLE when explaining Lopez’s unusual decision to file without the help of a counsel.
The date of Lopez’s filing also coincided with the second anniversary of the couple’s wedding ceremony in Georgia. The latter event came just over a month after she and Affleck tied the knot in Las Vegas on July 17, 2022.
“She was done waiting and the date she [filed on] speaks a ton,” a source told PEOPLE.
