Meghan Markle’s 10 word response and immediate questions after Prince Harry’s ‘cruel’ outburst
Prince Harry has revealed he had a ‘big row’ with Meghan Markle in the early days of their relationship and said he spoke to her ‘cruelly’ during the explosive arguments.
Harry, Duke of Sussex and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex attend a Summer Party at the British Ambassador’s residence at Glencairn House during their visit to Ireland on July 10, 2018 in Dublin, Ireland.
Prince Harry admitted having a row with Meghan.
Meghan Markle had a robust 10 word response to a “cruel outburst” from Prince Harry early in their relationship – and followed it up with some cutting questions.
That’s according to the Duke of Sussex himself, who revealed details of a fiery spat during the early stages of their whirlwind romance.
Despite living a life filled with luxury and privilege, it turns out that behind closed doors, Harry and Meghan are just like any other couple. Harry confessed to having a significant tiff with Meghan back in December 2016, only months after they started dating.
He described how he had been ‘cruel’ to her during the argument. In his bombshell memoir ‘Spare’, Harry recounts the incident, which marked their first major row. The evening had begun on a high note, with Meghan showing him how to roast a chicken as they grooved to tunes by James Taylor and Nina Simone, sipping wine.
However, the night took a sour turn. “Maybe the wine went to my head,” Harry penned. “Maybe the weeks of battling the press had worn me down. For some reason, when the conversation took an unexpected turn, I became touchy. Then angry. Disproportionately, sloppily angry. Meg said something I took the wrong way. It was partly a cultural difference, partly a language barrier, but I was also just over-sensitive that night. I thought: Why’s she having a go at me? I snapped at her, spoke to her harshly, cruelly.”
Harry recounted a tense moment, saying, “As the words left my mouth, I could feel everything in the room come to a stop. The gravy stopped bubbling, the molecules of air stopped orbiting. Even Nina Simone seemed to pause. Meg walked out of the room, disappearing for a full fifteen minutes.”
He then described going upstairs to find Meghan, who was sitting calmly in the bedroom and told him “she would never stand for being spoken to like that” and questioned where his anger had “come from”.
“Where did you ever hear a man speak like that to a woman? ” Meghan asked Harry, according to his account. “Did you overhear adults speak that way when you were growing up? I cleared my throat, looked away. Yes. She wasn’t going to tolerate that kind of partner. Or co-parent. That kind of life. She wasn’t going to raise children in an atmosphere of anger or disrespect. She laid it all out, super-clear. We both knew my anger hadn’t been caused by anything to do with our conversation.”
This revelation follows comments from a Kensington Palace aide about the nature of Harry and Meghan’s disputes before their departure from Royal duties, contrasting them with Prince William and Princess Kate’s relationship. Tom Quinn, author of ‘Gilded Youth: An Intimate History of Growing Up in the Royal Family ‘, divulged details from his exclusive chat with a Palace insider to Daily Express US.
The Royal author has spilled the beans, revealing: “Someone who worked for Kensington Palace told me they [William and Kate] do have rows. It’s not a perfect marriage. They have terrific rows.”
But it seems they keep things playful, with the source adding: “where some couples have a row and throw heavy vases at each other, William and Kate throw cushions at each other. It’s always kept under control”, Mr Quinn was informed. “It doesn’t escalate. The fight doesn’t get bigger and bigger”, according to the palace insider.
