Meghan Markle and Prince Harry make rare joint statement: ‘We are at a crossroads’
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have made a powerful statement in their first joint appearance in months, appearing together in a video for one of the causes close to their heart saying that they were “at a crossroads” with their work. The elegant pair shared a poignant video message about the importance of child protection online at a UN conference in Colombia.
Since their headline-grabbing royal-style tour in August, they had only been seen on solo outings, despite Meghan describing the pair as so inseparable that they were like “salt and pepper”. Sources close to the couple have suggested that their separate engagements may signal a new phase in their collaborative efforts.
In their address to the inaugural Global Ministerial Conference on Violence Against Children, Harry underscored the significance of the child protection moment, saying: “We are at a crossroads” highlighting the urgency for effective measures to protect children. The pair have been applauded for using their public profile to raise awareness of the important issue.
He stressed the need for action following increased awareness with Meghan adding: “My husband and I recognise that today’s reality is marked by greater connectivity and advanced technology, which, of course, has many positives. However, it also compels us to better understand how digital violence against children is manifesting itself in this age.”
Meghan and Harry’s foundation – which has the motto “Show Up, Do Good” – said: “At the Archewell Foundation, we engage with young people, families and experts worldwide, learning about how every aspect of a child’s life – from their livelihood to their physical and mental well-being – now operates within an online economy that has both the power to shape and misshape our connections.”, reports the Irish Star.
Both are seen wearing a poppy, marking Remembrance Sunday, which was today. The timing of the video is particularly striking, coming after Donald Trump took the White House – an outcome Harry and Meghan are undoubtedly watching closely as they await his moves upon taking office. Throughout the election campaign, Trump often aimed criticism at the Sussexes.
A visa controversy rumbles on for Harry in California after his explosive memoir Spare shared revelations of past drug use involving marijuana, cocaine and psychedelic mushrooms.
The Heritage Foundation, a conservative group, has launched a legal action demanding the US Government disclose details about Prince Harry’s visa application to confirm whether his past drug use was declared.
