Matt Damon’s true thoughts on Jennifer Lopez holding his hand after Ben Affleck split
Jennifer Lopez shocked fans at the after party for her new film, Unstoppable, when she was seen holding hands with her ex, Ben Affleck’s best friend, Matt Damon
The real reason Jennifer Lopez was seen holding hands with Matt Damon on Friday has been revealed.
The actress, 55, shocked fans when she was papped deep in conversation with Matt, who is Ben Affleck’s best friend, at the Toronto Film Festival.
Since news of Jennifer and Ben’s divorce was announced in August, the former couple’s pals have kept quiet about whose side they’re on. However, it’s now been reported that Good Will Hunting star, Matt, is definitely Team Ben.
Claiming Jennifer was keen to talk to the actor about her estranged husband during their reported 20 minute conversation as she took his hand at The Ritz-Carlton’s EPOCH Bar & Kitchen Terrace, a source said: “Matt Damon shut down any attempt that J-Lo made to discuss Ben at the premiere.”
“It was her timing that was so awkward because she would have known that pulling Matt aside at the event to have an intimate talk was going to get picked up and go viral. Her whole hand on his hand was a nice touch – but he was not having any of it. He told her he is glad she is doing well and is thankful for her participation in the film – but he made it clear he was not there to talk about Ben at all.”
At one point, the pair, who both star in the film Unstoppable, were sat together at the corner of the party while Jennifer had her hand on Matt’s while he bowed his head as if in prayer.
However, despite the intimate nature of their appearance, the insider insisted that Matt ‘was not “praying” with her’ and that he stressed that he would ‘always have Ben’s back no matter what.’
Jennifer was dressed to impress in disco ball-inspired Tamara Ralph frock for the event, marking her first red carpet since filing for divorce from Ben on August 20.
Matt and Ben are producers on Unstoppable – a sports drama about Anthony Robles, who was born with one leg and goes on to become a champion wrestler in college. Ben chose to stay home for the its debut in Toronto rather than risk a very public run-in with his ex, who has a supporting role in the flick, on the red carpet.
Jennifer and Ben first got engaged in 2003, and were due to walk down the aisle a year later but abruptly called off their wedding just days before the ceremony. The Argo director then went on to marry Jennifer Garner, and the couple welcomed three children together, while J-Lo tied the knot with singer Marc Anthony, and they share twins Max and Emme.
In 2021, following the breakdown of their respective marriages, the former couple affectionately known as Bennifer unexpectedly reunited, and a year later, they tied the knot in two ceremonies – once in Las Vegas, and a second time in Georgia. Sadly, less than two years after tying the knot, Jennifer filed for divorce from Ben citing irreconcilable differences.
