LeBron James’ Five-Word Message After Making NBA History Thursday Night
The Los Angeles Lakers snapped their two-game losing streak in impressive fashion Thursday night, defeating the Portland Trail Blazers on the road. Missing Luka Doncic, who sat out on the second night of a back to back, the Lakers turned to LeBron James, and the 40-year-old superstar delivered another historic performance.
James put up a dominant 40-point game, adding eight rebounds, four assists, and two steals, while shooting 53.8% from the field.
His incredible night set a new NBA record, making him the first player ever to record multiple 40-point games after turning 40 years old (via StatMamba on X).
James previously accomplished the feat on Feb. 6 against the Golden State Warriors, where he posted 42 points and 17 rebounds.
Aside from James’ brilliance, the Lakers also got a huge contribution from Austin Reaves, who stepped up in Doncic’s absence. The fourth-year guard finished the night with 32 points and seven assists, helping fuel LA’s offense in the much-needed victory.
When asked after the game about his historic night, James kept his response simple.
“I’ll be better next game,” James said.
In addition to his record-breaking scoring, James also moved up to third place on the NBA’s all-time regular season games played list.
“Congrats to @KingJames of the @Lakers for moving into 3rd on the all-time GAMES PLAYED list,” the NBA wrote.
Now in his 22nd year, James continues to dominate at an elite level, averaging 24.7 points, 7.7 rebounds, and 8.9 assists per game this season.
With the win, the Lakers improve to 33-21, placing them fifth in the Western Conference. They now shift their focus to Saturday’s road game against the second seed Denver Nuggets.
