King Charles revealed his true feelings about the rift between his sons with a short, but heart-wrenching statement, it has been claimed. Prince William and Prince Harry were engaged in a heated confrontation after the funeral of Prince Philip – and it is here that King Charles is alleged to have urged the brothers to stop. The revelation about the emotional comment came in Prince Harry’s bestselling memoir Spare, when he described the difficult confrontation he had with his father and brother after his grandfather’s funeral.

It came only weeks after he and Meghan had sat down with Oprah Winfrey for a bombshell interview that was seen by millions worldwide and left their relationship with some of the other royals in tatters. Prince Philip’s funeral took place amid the social distancing restrictions imposed during the COVID-19 pandemic, and saw only 30 mourners attend the service to lay the former Duke of Edinburgh to rest. This meant that Harry attended the poignant event solo – with Meghan, who was pregnant at the time, staying behind in California with the couple’s son Archie.

Harry described the difficult moment in his memoir as being pretty heated between him and his elder brother William, to the point that his father Charles said “Enough” and begged his two sons to stop fighting, heartbreakingly saying: “Please, boys ― Don’t make my final years a misery.” The Duke of Sussex added that Charles’s voice “sounded raspy, fragile. It sounded, if I’m being honest, old,” as his father pleaded with the two princes to stop arguing.

The frosty relations that Harry has endured with his brother and father have seemingly yet to thaw since this emotionally charged moment after Prince Philip’s death in 2021. Whilst Harry returned for the late Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations the following year – and just months later the official mourning period and state for the late monarch – it doesn’t seem like the family has fully reconciled at this point.

Just a few weeks after the release of Harry’s memoir, The Sun reported that he and Meghan had been “evicted” from their UK home of Frogmore Cottage, which was given to them by the late Queen after their marriage. King Charles is reported to want to hand over the keys to his younger brother Prince Andrew instead – who is staying firm in his desire to remain at his current, much larger home, of Royal Lodge.

When Harry was promoting the memoir he alleged he had yet to be invited to his father’s upcoming coronation, but in the end, did attend the landmark day, despite the fact he played no official role in the proceedings. Earlier this year when it was announced that King Charles had been diagnosed with cancer, Harry rushed back to the UK to visit his father, and the pair shared a short meeting. However, since then, they pair have not reunited publicly, despite Harry returning to his home country on a couple of occasions.
