A royal expert has shared details of an intimate conversation which was once leaked to the press between Prince Harry and King Charles – which left the monarch “disappointed”.
When King Charles celebrated his milestone 75th anniversary on November 14, 2023, Prince Harry called his father, and sent him a video of his two young children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, singing and wishing birthday greetings to their grandpa.
But the aftermath of the phone call, left the King “really disappointed” according to the Daily Mail’s royal editor, Rebecca English.
She told the podcast Palace Confidential: “One thing I did find out is how really disappointed the King was back in November when Harry did call him to wish him not just a happy 75th birthday but also his children did a little video singing happy birthday to the grandpa they barely even see.”
She added: “And within hours of that happening that was leaked from the Sussex side to favoured media and that really crossed the line in the sand for the Royal Family because so very little of their lives is genuinely private.”

Speaking of the Firm’s privacy, Rebecca added: “So much is lived in public or even surrounded by staff watching everything they do. So private conversations, particularly private phone calls are really considered just that.”
Tensions are high between Prince Harry and his family, especially in the aftermath of the release of Harry’s bombshell memoir Spare, where he railed against his family and revealed things about them in some of their most private moments.
Prince Harry was last in the UK weeks ago to attend the funeral of his late uncle Lord Robert Fellowes, the husband of Princess Diana’s sister Lady Jane Fellowes.
Although Harry did not meet his father during the visit, the event was also attended by Prince William, but the two brothers are said not to have spoken to each other.
The Duke of Sussex last saw his father in February 2024 when he flew into the UK after King Charles publicly announced his cancer diagnosis, and the two met in Clarence House for a brief 45-minute meeting.

Before that, Harry was in the UK in May for a 10th-anniversary service for the Invictus Games at St Paul’s Cathedral in London, with the King also in the capital on the same day – but he was hosting the Buckingham Palace garden party.
However, eyebrows were raised at the time, with a statement from Harry suggesting his father was too busy to see him and reports later claiming the King had offered his son a place to stay in a royal residence.
Prince Harry is set to return to the UK at the end of the month to attend the WellChild Awards ceremony as its Patron of 16 years, in a ceremony of “true privilege” to the Duke.
The awards, which will be held on September 30, celebrate the inspirational qualities of children and young people living with serious illnesses or complex medical needs, and they honour those around them who go the extra mile to keep them healthy and happy.
The Duke of Sussex said: “I am once again honoured to attend this year’s WellChild Awards celebrating the remarkable courage and achievements of children living with complex medical needs.
