Marrying a prince is supposed to be the stuff of fairy tales, but in the House of Windsor there isn’t always a happy ever after.
Three of Queen Elizabeth’s four children have been through a divorce and there have been numerous affairs and romantic disappointments along the way. But there have also been some lasting love stories that have melted the public’s hearts.
Royal commentator Jennie Bond believes there is one love story that will go down as the greatest ever in royal history – that between Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip.
She says: “Their love just grew and grew through their 70 years together.
“He was a very handsome young man when they met – a naval cadet in uniform, tall, blond, a Greek god, really.
“She loved him, and I think he loved her very much. It was a romance that endured until the very end.
As the BBC’s royal commentator for 14 years Jennie covered all the most famous royal relationship stories. And she remembers the shock news that the couple least likely to split – Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson – were breaking up.
