Whether or not you believe in miracles, Parker Grelecki’s tale from Georgia is a lovely example of one that may actually happen. Little Parker’s path is, as his father explains it, one of pure love.

Parker was born in 2008 with hydrocephalus, a disorder that causes an abnormal buildup of fluid in the brain.Parker’s brain accounted for barely 5% of his skull, compared to 90-95% in typical newborns.

Despite hospital staff’s warnings to prepare for the worst, the boy’s parents quickly realized that he would not give up.

Most parents remark, “We don’t care if it’s a boy or a girl; all we want is for the baby to be healthy.” Sadly, not many parents have the privilege of raising a healthy kid; just ask Crysie and Ryan Grelecki of Marietta, Georgia. They were overjoyed to learn in 2008 that Crysie was pregnant. However, at 20 weeks of pregnancy, the parents received sad news during one of the first ultrasounds.

The nurse noted that their then-unborn baby, Parker, had a larger-than-normal head. She realized there was something wrong and phoned for help. All of the experts who studied Parker’s scans agreed that his situation was serious and shocking.

Parker’s brain had a blockage between its third and fourth ventricles, preventing spinal fluid from draining. As a result, fluid was accumulating and compressing Parker’s brain tissue against his skull. The disease appears to occur in two out of every 1,000 babies in the United States.

When Crysie and Ryan Grelecki learned of their baby’s abnormalities, they were startled and anxious. However, they did what any parents should do: they stood by their unborn kid wholeheartedly.

“Throughout my pregnancy, when I would let my thoughts slide lower with “what if” and pure terror, God would remind me of a song. The lines that would repeat over and over in my brain and fill me with His calm went like this: “God will make a way; when there appears to be no way, He works in ways we cannot see; He will make a way for me.” “He will be my guide, hold me close by His side; with love and strength for each new day, God will make a way,” Crysie said on Facebook.

Typically, a newborn infant contains 90-95% brain tissue and 5-10% fluid in the cranial cavity. Parker was born in September 2008, with more than 98% fluid and only 8 millimeters of brain tissue.

He was born via C-section at 39 weeks. Of course, Parker’s birth was a hectic occasion. His future was uncertain, and no one knew if he would live, let alone what type of life he would lead. Fortunately, he received incredible support from his parents, who adored their darling young child more than anything. “I was at his side the entire time—talking to him, praying for him, holding his hand, and caressing his head. “That unconditional love just rushes over you, and here is this helpless baby that has been entrusted to me, and I can’t do anything for him,” Ryan explained.

At barely two days old, medical professionals at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta began draining extra fluids from his cranium and relieving pressure. As a result, Parker’s brain was able to freely expand and develop.

Parker turned 13 today!!! Oh, gosh. I’ve experienced a range of emotions while reminiscing on his life, including his birth and early years. Crysie Grelecki posted this on Thursday, September 9, 2021. Following that, he began to have procedures. Doctors conducted craniofacial procedures to address his skull abnormality, although they were aware that they would face a significant obstacle.

“We wanted to go in and re-expand the cranium, open it up, and separate the bones that had grown together. And that’s basically what we did—creating room for his brain to grow and develop normally,” says Joseph Williams, M.D., Chief of Plastic and Craniofacial Surgery at the hospital.

Two weeks later, Parker was able to return home. Four weeks later, he started physical therapy. Presenting our miracle child for May! Parker Grelecki, nicknamed “Super Par Par the Rockstar”!!! #MCM By the time Parker became 20 months old, he had undergone seven successful operations, and his recovery astounded everyone. According to Parker’s mother, it took some time for him to sit and keep his head up, but he eventually succeeded.

Parker also skipped the typical crawling period and began walking right away instead. Parker’s parents express gratitude to the Children’s Hospital in Atlanta and its personnel, who became an “extension” of their own family. The personnel at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta adored Parker. Parker’s recovery is one of many incredible success stories at the hospital, which is known worldwide for its rehabilitation program. Aside from formal therapy, Parker participated in a variety of activities to aid with muscular growth. For example, he played tennis and took swimming lessons alongside his siblings.

Parker now wears spectacles and has a head full of golden hair, making him practically unrecognizable from the day he was born. Looking at this adorable youngster now, he has greatly exceeded the expectations of almost all medical professionals. Parker performs exceptionally well in school, according to UGA Miracle.

“He should also have trouble interacting with others, and after meeting him for two minutes, it is apparent God has given him a very engaging personality,” according to UGA. Despite being born with less than 2% brain matter, Parker Grelecki is a living miracle.

“As parents, we are beyond thankful to be Parker’s parents and continue to watch him progress and live out the Lord’s plans for him,” the couple said.

Parker Grelecki, just awarded the 2015 Ace, joins the Ace family. His proud mother describes him as a “chatterbox” and a “loving child,” and he clearly feels the love all around him, not just from his original family but also from his hospital family. Parker’s brother and sister, Chase and Emily, have also been very supportive. Growing up with a sibling with special needs has inspired Chase and Emily to advocate for people who may not receive the respect they deserve.

“As parents, Crysie and I have grown to appreciate that having two children delivered without difficulties is truly miraculous. Parker’s journey has resulted in a family full of miracles,” Ryan and Crysie Grelecki remarked.

Parker turns 14 in September 2022. Even though he’s been through a lot that most people won’t have to go through in their lifetime, he still has a lot of good years ahead of him. Parker has long wanted to work as a sports pundit.

That brain, with three pounds of fluid and less than 2% brain tissue, is the same brain that is now so brilliant and capable of recalling vast quantities of sports information. Parker has also attempted his desired career multiple times, and he possesses natural skill.

He occasionally serves as an announcer for his local high school football team. According to eyewitnesses, he’s amazing at what he does, and Parker’s enthusiasm throughout the games is infectious.

Of course, Parker’s challenges are directly related to his brain impairment, but considering who he has become, we believe he is a tremendous hero and an amazing person. I’d be proud if I had even half of his outgoing and engaging demeanor. He appears to be a kind child!
