‘I worked with the Queen for years – here’s what Prince Harry was really like versus William’
A Royal PR expert who navigated some of the family’s toughest moments has shed light on what warring brothers Prince William and Prince Harry are really like behind closed palace doors.
A former PR person for the late Queen Elizabeth II has opened up about the differences between brothers Prince William and Prince Harry.
Ailsa Anderson worked as Her Majesty’s press secretary between the years 2001 to 2013, during which time she apparently got to know members of the family away from their Royal roles. This of course included Harry and William, then young princes still starting out in their roles.
During her time in the high-profile post, Ailsa was there for a number of ‘The Firm’s’ highs and lows, including the wedding of William and Kate, and the death of the Queen Mother. And it was during such times that she reportedly gained an insight into the personalities of William and Harry, long before their feud pushed them in very different directions.

Speaking with The Sun, Ailsa described Harry as a ‘cheeky chappie’ – the polar opposite of William’s ‘more serious and shy’ demeanour. Ailsa recalled: “Harry was the media’s darling. He was the war hero, he’d served in Afghanistan, he was a cheeky chappie.
“If you speak to royal correspondents who have been in the job a long time, they all absolutely loved Harry. Compared to William, in fact. William was seen as more serious and shy but Harry was the life and soul of the party. He couldn’t do a thing wrong. And certainly, when I spoke to him, he was funny and intelligent.”
She continued: “He was passionate about the military – the Invictus Games is clearly a testament to that. I’ve got a photograph in my hall of Harry and I with our arms around each other outside a ladies’ loo – don’t read anything into this.
Prince William’s sweet wish for Prince George revealed – ‘we’re just a normal family’
However, although the job certainly sounds like a fairytale, Ailsa won’t be rushing back to the palace anytime soon, with the intense pressures of the ’24/7′ job meaning she likely won’t be reapplying anytime soon. Reflecting on the rocky waters the Royal PR team has had to navigate in recent times, Ailsa shuddered, “Thank God I’m not there”.
This follows the news that Harry and wife Meghan Markle have reportedly splashed out on a dreamy new holiday home in Portugal narrowing the distance between themselves and the rest of the Royal family – physically at least. It’s understood that the purchase was partially motivated by the couple wanting to be closer to Harry’s younger cousin, Princess Eugenie, 34, and her husband Jack Brooksbank, who divide their time between London and Melides’ CostaTerra Golf and Ocean Club, where Jack works in marketing and sales.
He continued: “Also this gives the Sussexes a foothold in the EU and a base near Britain. We expected Harry to visit Britain periodically as he has cases against the media pending as well as his case against the Home Office on security and presumably will surely wish to see his father whilst he fights illness, despite recent confusion as to whether this was or was not possible.
