There’s confidence within the Sussex camp that the Duke and Duchess’ star is rising – and they will emulate Princess Diana in becoming bigger than the royals

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are said to have regarded their two “quasi-royal” tours as been major successes and are reportedly planning further trips – possibly to Lesotho or Botswana – later this year. The Duke and Duchess Sussex are reportedly so pleased with the reaction to their charm offensive in Colombia that they anticipate becoming a more significant force then the Royal Family itself.

Sources within the Sussex camp quoted by Woman magazine claim that “the Palace is mindful of what happened when Princess Diana left royal life – and instantly eclipsed the institution. They claim the King is fearful of a repeat of the past, with Harry and Meghan overshadowing his work and becoming global superstars.”

The next move on the couple’s agenda is a solo trip to New York City for Prince Harry later this month. The visit, which will coincide with The UN General Assembly’s High-Level Week and Climate Week, will “advance a number of [the Prince’s] patronages and philanthropic initiatives,” his team said.

A source told Hello! Magazine that Prince Harry felt that he could do the most good with his various diplomatic initiatives: “That’s his world, that’s what he’s used to and that’s what he knows. He can still add value.”

On Harry and Meghan’s international trips, the host countries are generally expected to underwrite the couple’s security. Their visit to Colombia reportedly cost the impoverished country around eight billion pesos (£1.5million) according to local media.

But for any potential to the UK, there’s still a financial standoff regarding the Sussexes bodyguards. Prince Harry “continually wants to discuss his ongoing battle for security,” reports Woman Magazine, frustrating His Majesty the King to the point where the monarch will no longer accept his son’s telephone calls.

Sources close to Harry say the King refuses to communicate with his younger son. “He gets “unavailable right now” and his calls go unanswered,” claimed one friend. But Harry refuses to back down, saying that it would only take “one lone actor” to threaten his wife or his children.

Royal biographer Ingrid Seward says that the King knows his son is “very stubborn”. She told the Daily Mail: “It’s damaging to his father. It’s embarrassing to his father on a more personal level, to think that his own son doesn’t feel safe in the country in his own homeland.

“He doesn’t let things go, Harry. That’s his nature, a bit like his mum. It’s very Diana to pursue something and Harry is just not letting go in spite of advice to the contrary. I do feel that this is certainly not helping any situation.”
