Iga Swiatek’s lack of worry over the surface switch from grass to clay for the upcoming Paris Olympics sparked hilarious reactions from the fans. The 2024 Paris Olympics will start in a couple of weeks after Wimbledon and will be played at Roland Garros.
Swiatek is coming off a phenomenal clay season where she won two WTA 1000 titles in Madrid and Rome and followed it up with a historic three-peat at the 2024 French Open. She was supposed to begin her grass campaign at the ecotrans Ladies Open but pulled out to rejuvenate herself after a hectic clay season. After her triumph at the Clay Major, the 23-year-old was asked if she was apprehensive about having to quickly switch surfaces from grass to clay. She admitted that clay to grass could have been troublesome but she was confident returning to clay and needed just two days to adapt to the red dirt.
“I think it would be a bigger challenge if there was grass first, meal in the middle, and grass again. Going back to the meal won’t be a problem for me. When I come back to it after a whole year, two days are enough and I feel great on clay.” She said to Przeglad Sportowy.
She also said that she played in Stuttgart after the Billie Jean King Cup, played on hardcourt, and felt comfortable adapting to the surface.
“This year I already played the Billie Jean King Cup on hard, I entered the clay tournament in Stuttgart and I was able to play a very good tournament, so going to the clay a second time will not be a problem.”
