JUST IN:Patrick Mahomes’ father involved in angry confrontation after Kansas City Chiefs lost Super Bowl

Former baseball stars Pat Mahomes Sr and John Rocker were involved in a heated confrontation outside a Bourbon Street bar in New Orleans during Super Bowl week.

Video footage shows the two ex-MLB pitchers attempting to physically attack each other before bystanders intervened to separate them.

A witness in the clip appeared to recognise Rocker, who proceeded to throw a cup of ice at Mahomes Sr as the latter was pulled away from the scene.

The altercation quickly went viral on social media, prompting Mahomes Sr to tweet that “John Rocker is a menace to society.”

The incident comes amid reports that the two former rivals are set to face each other in an amateur boxing match.

Mahomes Sr was in New Orleans to support his son Patrick, the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback, who was playing in Super Bowl LIX against the Philadelphia Eagles.

The Chiefs ultimately suffered defeat in the championship game.

Prior to the big game, Mahomes Sr was spotted at a local casino on Thursday night, accompanied by his ex-wife Randi and his son Jackson.

Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy has appeared to confirm rumours of an upcoming boxing match between the two former pitchers.

When questioned about Mahomes Sr’s involvement, Portnoy stated: “That’s a factual rumour.”

He further acknowledged Rocker’s participation, saying: “Yeah, so you’re on it with your rumours.”

Regarding the official status of the bout, Portnoy revealed: “I think it is! I believe we have a signed agreement for Mahomes Sr to fight John Rocker at Rough N Rowdy.”

However, he added some uncertainty: “I think it’s 100 per cent, but I haven’t seen the signed paperwork yet.”

The potential match-up stems from their rivalry during the 1999 and 2000 seasons, when Rocker played for the Braves and Mahomes Sr for the Mets.

Rocker’s controversial history includes a highly-publicised 1999 Sports Illustrated interview that led to his suspension from MLB.

In the interview, he made racist and homophobic statements, including calling his Curacaoan teammate Randall Simon a “fat monkey.”

When asked about potentially playing for New York teams, Rocker described taking the train to Shea Stadium as riding “next to some queer with AIDS” and “some dude who just got out of jail.”

He also made disparaging remarks about foreigners in New York, questioning “How the hell did they get in this country?”

MLB Commissioner Bud Selig initially suspended Rocker for all of spring training and 28 regular-season games, though this was later reduced to 14 games on appeal.

Mahomes Sr has faced his own share of legal troubles in recent years.

He has been arrested for driving while intoxicated on three occasions – in 2008, 2019 and 2024.

Last year, he was banned from driving after being found operating a vehicle without a valid licence.

He is currently under “intense supervision” during his first year of probation, having served 10 days in jail.

Despite these legal issues, Mahomes Sr maintained a visible presence throughout Super Bowl week in New Orleans.

His son Jackson, who accompanied him to the casino, has also faced legal challenges, having received six months’ probation in March last year after pleading guilty to battery of a waiter.

More serious charges against Jackson of aggravated sexual battery were dropped when the alleged victim, a restaurant owner, declined to testify.
