Buckingham Palace Shares Update on King Charles III’s Cancer Treatments
As King Charles III continues his cancer journey, his treatment is “moving in a positive direction,” a Buckingham Palace source told NBC News Dec. 20.

Amid the British monarch’s ongoing cancer battle, his treatment is “moving in a positive direction,” a Buckingham Palace source told NBC News Dec. 20.

While the update is good news for the 76-year-old, the source also noted that his cancer is a “managed condition,” and therefore his “treatment cycle will continue into next year.”

As Charles—who ascended to the throne in September 2022 after the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II—continues to battle the disease, his wife, Queen Camilla, also recently shared a positive update on his health journey.

During a visit to the Dyson Cancer Center at the Royal United Hospital in Bath, England in September, the queen consort—who married Charles in 2005—was asked by Suzy Moon of Macmillan Cancer Support about the king’s health status. Camilla, 77, responded, per the Mirror, “He is doing very well.”

Buckingham Palace disclosed Charles’ cancer diagnosis in February—though they did not say what kind of cancer—and announced that he would take a step back from public duties to begin his treatment. He re-emerged in late April to resume his work, making a poignant trip to the University College Hospital Macmillan Cancer Centre in London accompanied by Camilla.

Of course, Charles isn’t the only member of the royal family fighting the disease. The palace announced Kate Middleton had also been diagnosed with cancer in March, after a photo editing controversy sparked conspiracy theories about her well-being.

Fortunately, the Princess of Wales—whose husband, Prince William, is heir to the British throne—has also shown signs of improvement. In November, William had good news to share about her condition.

“She’s doing really well,” he told Sky News during a trip to South Africa, adding that his wife has “been amazing this whole year.”

Kate Middleton Completes Chemotherapy

On Sept. 9, the Princess of Wales shared that she had completed chemotherapy after being diagnose with an unspecified form of cancer earlier this year.

“The cancer journey is complex, scary and unpredictable for everyone, especially those closest to you,” she said in a video statement. “With humility, it also brings you face to face with your own vulnerabilities in a way you have never considered before, and with that, a new perspective on everything.”

The royal added, “Although I have finished chemotherapy, my path to healing and full recovery is long and I must continue to take each day as it comes. I am however looking forward to being back at work and undertaking a few more public engagements in the coming months when I can.”

Nearly three months after sharing her cancer diagnosis, the Princess of Wales said that she’s “making good progress” with chemotherapy, though there are “good days and bad days” amid her health journey.

“On those bad days you feel weak, tired and you have to give in to your body resting,” Kate wrote on Instagram June 14. “But on the good days, when you feel stronger, you want to make the most of feeling well.”

She added, “My treatment is ongoing and will be for a few more months. On the days I feel well enough, it is a joy to engage with school life, spend personal time on the things that give me energy and positivity, as well as starting to do a little work from home.”
