Prince Harry ‘has good reason to fear that Donald Trump may want revenge’
Trump was inaugurated as the 47th US president this week yet previous
Prince Harry may be “fearing” Donald Trump after previously stating he would not protect him if he became president, a royal expert has warned.
The 47th US president has publicly spoken out about the Duke of Sussex’s visa row, saying he would take “appropriate action” over questions the prince lied on his application following an admission about past recreational drug use in his memoir Spare.
Royal commentator Tom Bower believes Mr Trump’s inauguration on Monday “must be a day of fear” as the new president “may want revenge”.
He told MailOnline: “Firstly, because he accused Harry of having ‘betrayed the Queen’ which he condemned as ‘unforgivable’, ‘very disrespectful’ and responsible for ‘breaking her heart’.
“But worse for Harry, Trump told Nigel Farage last year that if the duke had lied in his application for an American visa about taking drugs, he could be deported from America.”

In his memoir Spare, the Duke admitted to previously taking cannabis, cocaine, and magic mushrooms, which has been argued as grounds for deportation from the United States.
Washington think tank the Heritage Foundation has been campaigning to have Prince Harry’s visa application made public, revealing whether or not he took drugs.
They sued the Department of Homeland Security last year in an attempt to speed up this process, but the case was blocked by US judge Carl Nichols in September. Now, with Mr Trump in office, the think tank is hoping to expedite the process of exposing the documents.
Nile Gardiner, a member of the Heritage Foundation, said Mr Trump could use his executive powers to overturn Homeland Security’s decision and release Prince Harry’s visa application.
Bower continued: “Harry must be worried because Trump warned that the prince should not receive ‘special privileges’. Harry admitted taking Class A drugs in Spare.
“Until now, Harry was protected by the Biden administration which prevented a US court from releasing Harry’s 2020 visa application.”
Before he was elected, Mr Trump told the Express US that he would not “protect” Prince Harry, raising questions over what this could mean for his future in the US.

He said: “I wouldn’t protect him. He betrayed the Queen. That’s unforgivable. He would be on his own if it was down to me.”
Mr Trump also wrote on X in 2020: “I am a great friend and admirer of the Queen & the United Kingdom. It was reported that Harry and Meghan, who left the Kingdom, would reside permanently in Canada.
“Now they have left Canada for the US however, the US will not pay for their security protection. They must pay!”
Meghan Markle, 43, cannot be deported as she is a US citizen.
Mr Trump has been publicly voicing his feelings towards Prince Harry for years, making it clear that he will not support him during his time living in the US.
Mr Bower added: “Harry has good reason to fear that Trump may want revenge, not least to punish the prince for undermining the Royal Family who the new president revers, especially after recently meeting William in Paris.”
