Royal Family: Meghan Markle ‘hated not being star of show’ while on tour with Harry
Meghan Markle enjoyed “playing the part of a princess” but was not impressed when she realised she wouldn’t be taking a “starring role” while on tour with Prince Harry, says royal expert.

Meghan Markle was said to have had an “eye-opening” experience while on her first royal tour with Prince Harry to Australia, according to a royal expert.

Just as King Charles and Queen Camilla kickstarted their tour Down Under today, more details of the Sussexes’s first official tour overseas in 2018 come into the spotlight.

Royal commentator Ingrid Seward said Meghan enjoyed “playing the part of the princess” but became disappointed as she soon came to the “shock” realisation that she wouldn’t be the “star of the show” and would just be a “cog in the wheel”.

She told the Sun: “It was a monumental trip when Harry and Meghan went in 2018, and Meghan announced her pregnancy when she was there. I think the Australians were very flattered by that and she played her part brilliantly. They were young and fresh.

“But I think Meghan wasn’t seeing it quite like that. I think she enjoyed the adulation. She enjoyed playing the part of the princess as she saw it. But I also think it was it was a bit of a shock. She was being told what to do. She was being told where to go, and she was being told how to do it. And she wasn’t taking a starring role.”

The Duke of Sussex revealed in his memoir that it was his father, King Charles, who first used this term to refer to him.

This occurred when Princess Diana gave birth to their second son, leading Charles to exclaim: “Wonderful! Now you’ve given me an heir and a spare – my work is done.”
