Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have waded in on US politics ahead of the upcoming election in November, sparking concern among experts.

While Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have not publicly endorsed a candidate ahead of the upcoming US election in November, they have released a statement via their charity the Archewell Foundation, urging Americans to register to vote – sparking concern from a royal expert.

The statement read: “Voting is not just a right; it’s a fundamental way to influence the fate of our communities. At The Archewell Foundation, we recognize that civic engagement, no matter one’s political party, is at the heart of a more just and equitable world. By participating in initiatives like this, we aim to amplify the message that every voice matters.”

It continued: “Together, let’s make sure every eligible voter is informed and empowered to participate in shaping America’s future.”

Hugo Vickers, a royal biographer, said the pair are more interested in “staying relevant” than following protocol. Speaking to The Sun, he said: “It’s a big danger issue for them.”

He added: “I think that everything they do is a desperate attempt to keep relevant and keep themselves in the news.”

Neither Meghan, Harry nor the foundation have publically endorsed Kamala Harris or Donald Trump in the upcoming race.

The royal biographer continued: “They’ve moved into this kind of celebrity status situation, whereby they must always be attracting news comments, otherwise they disappear. But they definitely should not be dabbling in any kind of politics, least of all American politics. They really have no right to do it.”

Ahead of the last presidential election, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex filmed a video statement from the gardens of their Montecito mansion.

In the video, which came shortly after Meghan and Harry moved into their multi-million-pound home in Montecito, Harry encouraged US voters to “reject hate speech”.

Meghan also labelled the 2020 presidential race as the “most important election of our lifetime”.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle watching entertainment in Colombia

Harry and Meghan’s Archewell Foundation led projects in Colombia
Last month, Harry and Meghan visited Colombia on a four-day visit focusing on projects led by the Archewell Foundation.

The Colombian Ministry said the visit allowed the people of Colombia to engage with the Archewell Foundation. The spokesman added: “It was a very productive visit that allowed connections to be established between the populations and the Archewell Foundation – created and led by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex – to promote programmes aimed at the economic autonomy of women, the prevention of violence in digital environments for girls, boys and young people, and support for leaders who build peace through art and culture.”

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex visited the South American nation on a four-day trip that included stops at Bogotá, Cali and Cartagena. The Colombian Ministry of Equality and Equity, led by Vice-President Francia Márquez, hailed the trip a “success”.

Archewell was founded when Prince Harry and Meghan moved to the US and stepped down from official royal duties in 2020 and the charity states its mission is to “create positive change around the world”.
