Kate Middleton’s Brother Reflects on Her Cancer Diagnosis: “Life Throws You Obstacles”
James Middleton is releasing his memoir, Meet Ella, next week.
Ahead of the book’s debut, he gave an interview to People, where he opened up about his very family. Since 2017, he said, “We speak more openly now about our own mental health as a family. That is a great thing.” His family—his parents Carole and Michael, and sisters Kate and Pippa—are proud of him for sharing his story and mental health struggles. “The embrace of a hug from a family member means more than words. We’re a close family, but it’s brought us together. I know they’re proud of me for telling my story,” he said.
His brother-in-law, Prince William, is also very much a part of their family dynamic, James says. “William has been fantastic in offering advice and support and giving his two cents on the best approach to things,” he told People.
After Kate announced her cancer diagnosis in March, James took to Instagram to share a message of support: “Over the years, we have climbed many mountains together. As a family, we will climb this one with you too.”
Reflecting on his sister’s health, he said, “There are huge numbers of people who go through [cancer]. It doesn’t matter who you are, what your upbringing is. Life throws you obstacles.” He added, “We are a close family. It is always important to have support around you and not do things alone. Sharing it does help bring people together. My love and support for my family is more than just an Instagram post.”
