Prince Harry announces next high-profile trip – but Meghan Markle won’t be joining him
Less than a month on from his successful four day tour of Colombia with wife Meghan Markle, Prince Harry has officially announced the date and location of his next solo trip, which will take the Duke to New York City in September.
Announcing the news on August 27, a spokesperson for the Prince confirmed that he is set to visit New York City during UN General Assembly High-level Week and Climate Week. Of the two important occasions, Climate Week kicks off on September 22 and runs until September 29, while High-level Week runs from September 23 to September 27.
According to the announcement, Harry, 39, will be in New York City to “advance a number of his patronages and philanthropic initiatives.”
While in the Big Apple, ”he will participate in engagements with African Parks, The HALO Trust, The Diana Award, and Travalyst,” the spokesperson added.
Harry will also “be furthering the work of The Archewell Foundation, the nonprofit organisation he co-founded with his wife Meghan, The Duchess of Sussex.”
Interestingly, despite having undertaken two high profile trips this year with his wife Meghan, to Nigeria back in May and Colombia earlier this month – Harry’s upcoming trip will be a solo trip with a keen focus on supporting causes close to his heart.
The trip will also coincide with another huge event happening in the city at the same time, as Prince William’s Earthshot Prize Innovation Summit, is also due to take place on September 24.
Prince William, 42, launched the contest back in 2020 with the key goal of hoping to inspire impactful and sustainable responses to some of the most critical environmental issues affecting the planet, including matters such as conservation, tackling deforestation and addressing climate change.
As part of the annual contest, the Prince plans to award £1 million Earthshot Prizes in five categories annually until 2030.
While it is currently unknown whether Prince William will attend the summit in person, he did attend last year and this year’s late September date will also mean it falls after his children Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis have returned to school following a long Summer break.
Prince Harry’s upcoming return to New York will also mark a milestone return for him, as it is the first time since October 2023 that the Prince has visited New York City, following The Archewell Foundation Parents’ Summit: Mental Wellness in a Digital Age last year.
The critical summit brought together parents who had experienced tragic loss connected to their child’s social media use, and the Duke and Duchess gave a moving conversation on stage alongside Surgeon General Vivek Murthy in a talk moderated by Carson Daly.
