Coco GAUFF ,Emma Raducanu and Novak Djokovic sent brutal message by fans
Novak Djokovic, Emma Raducanu and Coco Gauff have all been sent messages they will not like by Express Sport readers, with poll results labelling the stars overrated and past their primes. Each of the trio has faced mixed results this year, and will hope for improvement over their coming tournaments. An overwhelming 89 per cent of readers voted that Coco Gauff is not the most talented teenage tennis star of all time, despite the American enjoying a solid start to the 2024 season. Gauff enjoyed a semi-final appearance at the Australian Open and win at the Auckland Open at the start of the year, but her season is tainted by a second-round exit at the hands of 42nd-ranked Katerina Siniakova at the Qatar Open.
Despite the world No. 3 having won seven WTA Tour singles finals, including the U.S. Open in 2023, the ‘most talented teenage tennis star’ label is a tough one to crack. Serena Williams and Rafael Nadal make strong cases, with both also winning their first major titles as teenagers.According to 83 per cent of readers, Emma Raducanu is no better now than when she won the U.S. Open in 2022. The 21-year-old was missing from action for much of the 2023 season, having suffered ankle and wrist injuries, but made her professional return as a wildcard entry at the Auckland Open in January.
Raducanu would go out in the second round to eventual finalist Elina Svitolina, and would also lose in the second round of the Australian Open to world No. 66 Wang Yafan. She has since won three and lost three matches in Abu Dhabi, Qatar and Indian Wells. While a dip in form after such a lengthy absence isn’t unusual, the Brit will hope to improve her form soon.
Novak Djokovic is also past his prime, according to 74 per cent of our readers. While the 36-year-old still clings to his world No. 1 ranking, it’s difficult at that age to reach the same heights that he did in his prime.
